Funny how if the topic is sex they think the answer is to accept that they are going to do it no matter what and hand them a bag of condoms. But if the topic is anything to do with guns we must practice 100% abstinence and not even imagine such a thing.

  • I read this and was thinking about blogging about it (I would not have reported these kids playing with pencils). This is the problem with “zero tolerence” policies~ people get stupid ideas like this rather than judging and handling each “report” on a case by case basis! Just plain crazy!

  • I bet the people who suspend these children have probably never handled a gun in their lifetimes. Also, I wonder if the children have been given a warning about pretending random objects are guns.

  • Zero-tolerance policies really mean school officials are too lazy to actually think, and deal with students’ behavior on a case-to-case basis. Also, this should be obvious, but we make a big mistake in discouraging our children from imitating the good guys, in other words Cops and Soldiers.

  • Common sense- WHAZZAT? Sex is only a crime when the victim “harasses” the attacker. After all, men just can’t help themselves. Yep- common sense has taken a long jump out the window.

  • You are absolutely right about more evidence that this country is nuts. Good grief. I just can not find the words to express how stupid those people are who suspended these kids. They would really crap if they saw my grandkids playing guns with sticks.
They need to spend more time teaching kids to respect guns and gun safety-well they need to teach some of these moron parents who leave loaded guns laying around gun safety too-rather than pick on kids who are just being kids.
I no longer own a gun but that is due to my husbands frontal lobe dementia, but I do own a stun gun and I do feel safer having it.
    Thanks for informing us all.

  • Perhaps judgment calls had to be removed to stop the law suits, people sue over everything, and now the zero tolerance is the result. Common sense is nolonger common!

  • This is… uhh… wow.
I’m 20 years old and yet I remember a day when schools suspended kids for, you know, actual reasons. Great to know that CHILDREN can now be suspended for… playing games. Sigh.

But as you said, no point in stopping them from having sex! Children playing is a travesty but 13 year olds getting pregnant is not. Oh humanity, you’re so logical.

  • The schools really have more problems to deal with than imaginary guns.

  • It is amazing when you compare playing guns and sex.  Especially when girls are 10,000 times more likely to become pregnant teens than boys are likely to end up shooting someone.  But let’s still encourage the activity that has the higher likelihood…

  • Yeah, that is weird, isn’t it. Hm. Especially when, about sex, the call is to “teach them to protect themselves”… well duh! That’s why you take them to the range, right? Lol.
Honestly, I think that being more educated in any subject serves a person well. I just think that sex is too important to trust to some coach for a half credit in your sophomore year.

  • Just more evidence that sending your children to public school is child abuse.

  • I really can’t believe how insane public schools are becoming. And people wonder why I don’t want to send my children to one!

  • @trunthepaige - Be careful what private school you send them too as well. Many are owned by the same people, or type thereof, who control the Department of Education.

  • Trust me when I say that the Colleges and Universities in this country are far, far worse…at least the State run ones are. I happen to teach at one, and they — especially here at Va. Tech — are tripwire happy when it comes to all things guns and religion. A coworker had the police visit simply for venting on facebook about how some of her students were causing her great angst and mentioned an April Fool’s Day surprise. Cops came on the Saturday before 4/1/2013, and that was followed by an interview at Campus Police HQ. No charges were filed, but still, it was harrowing for her….
